Pulled a story from an anthology this morning that was scheduled for publication in May . . . June . . . July . . . and August.
Funny thing is (looking back on it) the story itself was never really "accepted" into the anthology anyhow.
Some signs, in this instance, anyway, that the publisher may not be right for your story:
1) You receive no acknowledgement of your submission.
2) You follow-up in three months to determine if they have received it.
3) They get back to you two months later and tell you that your story is a "finalist . . . of sorts."
4) You read their newsletter every month and see the anthology is scheduled for May, then June, then July, then August, then . . . it's not even mentioned.
5) Nine months have gone by without a formal acceptance.
At any rate, time to find a new home for my award winning (Writers of the Future Honorable Mention) story "Adamson's Rock."
I'll be proud to place it anywhere . . . but there.

ooo a mystery. i might have to find out who it is.
There are those publishers out there that make us a bit nervous as to whether they're reliable/real/going to ever do anything with our stories. its always good to know who they are to avoid them

Heh. Hey, I guess in fairness to them, they've got a lot going on, and this has been a troublesome anthology with a long and checkered history.
But still . . .
I know the feeling. I am thinking of pulling a story that was previously accepted and has been collecting dust for 8 months, waiting for a release date for the antho to be announced...
Hey, at least yours was accepted! And had they even had the courtesy to keep me updated, I probably woulda been patient.
But if this is how they run things, you gotta figure nothing good could come from it. Best of luck with your story!
